Hi. I'm Karee, “The Leaf Lady”.
’Bout Leaves sprouted in May of 2003. It began as so very many other projects have: with a great passion to create a special gift for family and friends that went a little, okay a lot, crazy. After months of research and time perfecting the castings and prints, they are now available for you to enjoy.
The leaf casting sculptures are all made from real leaves. Each leaf can only be used one time. There are no two alike. Each unique just like every one of us. Mother Nature's design and detail is captured brilliantly for display. Never knowing what image will appear when unveiled, surprises await. Some leaves react with the mixture creating impressions that I alone cannot duplicate. God deserves the credit here, he's just using my hands.
The three dimensional leaf and flower prints are from real plants grown in my own flower gardens. Even the ladybug is real. After she allowed me, with a little coaxing, to get an image of her, she was released to fly free again.
The leaf sculptues and prints bring all the aspects of my life together. I've always had the "green thumb" enjoying every plant and bloom in my yard. Perhaps this endeavor was inspired by my great, great, great ... grandfather who was a gardener for Queen Elizabeth;or the family "Bunyar Florist & Greenhouse" that were in Independence, Missouri; or my grandmother's (Frances (Hartley) Bunyar) love for plants and herbs. In that I've been rehabbing my home for seven years, my knowledge of the construction industry has grown. This includes cement. As the casting are of a cement mixture, this again ties parts of my life all together. Perhaps these creations spun from my grandfather, Benn A. Bunyar, who sculpted detailed images of man in limestone rock. Cement contains limestone, the leaf forms details of every vein in the cast just like grandpa did, once again tying parts of my life all together.
Hoping you enjoy the castings and prints as much as I do making them (to tell you the truth - it's addictive!), Karee |
